Don’t Rationalize Bad Behavior
When we’re dealing with someone new, we’re constantly on the lookout for “hmmm” moments. By this I mean moments when our new friend or associate makes some type of backwards comment, perhaps in passing, that gives you pause. Just like in a romantic relationship, don’t ignore the red flags or even worse don’t play the dangerous game of making excuses for their shadiness. Your “hmmm” radar is rarely wrong. Ignoring those “hmmm” moments now will lead to frustration in the future.

We’re all prone to our moments of negativity and pessimism but no one wants to be surrounded by a Debbie Downer all the time. Most people who focus on the negative don’t know this about themselves. If you recognize that deep down yourfriend is a good person then you might be inclined in trying to sway their outlook by speaking positively around them, reminding them to look at the bright side.
