First of all, did you know that there is a Barbie called the Designable Hair Extensions Barbie? Yes, there is, and I did not know she existed until right now. The deal with DHE Barbie is that you can print customized hair patterns/designs using an inkjet printer and stick it on Barbie’s head. Is your mind blown yet? Okay, now that we’ve got that squared away, here’s part two: super-iconic Dalston (London) salon Bleach has created a series of customized hairdos specially for DHE Barbie. Check out some of their amazing styles after the jump.
Here’s the deal: co-founder of Bleach, Alex Brownsell, created eight different hair designs for DHE Barbie—and these designs can be recreated for humans using the Barbie hair printing software. Which look would you choose?
“To create the looks for Barbie we basically just used everything we could—dye, marker pens, glitter, nail polish, bits of fabric, stickers, even crisp packets,” Brownsell told Dazed Digital. “We have had a few disasters whilst trying things out on Barbie’s hair—someone melted her hair off in the crimper forgetting it was synthetic, and we have also ended up with one having bright blue skin. All the Barbies have taken inspiration from real clients and people that we know (not telling any names).”
Each Bleach x Barbie kit—which retails for about $45 and is currently only available in the UK at Tesco—includes 16 human-head size/length printable extensions along with a DHE Barbie doll and six doll-sized hairpieces.
