Horn Of Africa Drought Crisis: Let’s Help Now!

In News on July 27, 2011 at 2:19 pm
The United Nations has pushed for massive action to help save millions of people in the drought-stricken Horn of Africa. The drought began with the lack of rain late last year in northern and eastern regions of Kenya, south-central Somalia and eastern Ethiopia. Emergency warnings and appeals for aid are coming in from East, West, and Central Africa.

More than 12 million people have been affected by the worst drought in nearly 60 years, which has wreaked havoc on war-torn Somalia and parts of Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda. “Unless the government acts immediately or the donor community responds quickly to avert this serious situation, the drought will develop into widespread starvation,” warned Ethiopia’s The Reporter.
